Review // Muscle Mousse Protein Dessert!

5/21/2015

For full disclosure purposes, I received 1 tub of Muscle Mousse for free in return for an honest review. I am not being paid to talk about or advertise their products. All opinions of the product are my own. Any links marked with a * are affiliate links.

For the longest time, I've always had a big sweet tooth. After a savoury meal in the evening for dinner I sometimes like to have a dessert afterwards, maybe not straight after my dinner but sometime after. However, the choice of whether or not I should have dessert can also come with a side of guilt.

Do I REALLY need a sweet treat? ...but what about those calories I'd burnt during my workout earlier? it will just be like a wasted effort!

I recently had the opportunity to try out Muscle Mousse. Muscle Mousse is a high protein, gluten free food that  can actually be enjoyed any time of the day and also doubles as a guilt free dessert or snack! It has no added sugar(sweetened with Stevia), is low in fat and has 30g of protein! Muscle Mousse is fortified with BCAAs and they strive to use the highest quality ingredients. Their micellar casein and whey are imported from grass-fed dairy cattle in Switzerland.

There are 6 amazing flavours to choose from, it was hard making a decision. The flavours are: Strawberry, Mint Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Butterscotch, Peanut Chocolate and Banana. I'm actually quite the sucker for a Milky Bar and the White Chocolate apparently tastes quite close to it but in mousse form so I totally went with that!
The mousse was actually surprisingly easy to prepare. The powder just mixes with water in a regular shaker bottle until combined, then the mixture can be put into whatever container you want and put in the fridge to set for 30 minutes.

I actually prepare this before I do a workout in the evening and by the time I am finished, it is set and ready to eat! So Convenient!

Muscle Mousse is Casein based protein, which means that its slow-releasing, making it more ideal for after workouts in the evening before bed - basically, its more efficient for when you need to go long periods without food or protein.

It is less effective for after a workout because it's slow releasing and whey protein would be more beneficial - but that doesn't mean you can't have it after a workout! I had it as a dessert and a treat post workout in the evenings not long before I got into bed.
This is the muscle mousse set and I just added some nakd nibbles to mine, it was delicious!
Obviously, you can just have it on its own too!
The flavour is amazing and just what I need to kick the sweet craving. It has the mousse texture that you would expect too. I actually found it to be REALLY filling and I actually now only use half the serving size recommended to make smaller portions whilst still getting in a decent amount of protein.
Obviously, you don't have to have this in mousse form. It can be used in its shake form like you would any other protein shakes and it is quite popular in baking! It keeps bakes light, fluffy and moist and also had self-raising properties too.

I've been following Muscle Mousse for a while and saw their #GreatBritishMousseOff competition where people used Muscle Mousse for their baking creations. The possibilities are endless and there were some mouth watering entries!

These are just some of the amazing creations. People were making everything from pancakes to cheesecakes, cookies and brownies! I haven't personally tried it in baking, although I do want to try and make a cheesecake with it, so it might be a challenge for this weekend! I'd also like to try it in pancakes too! I'm just not very adventurous with baking so I will probably have to find a recipe somewhere! ;)

I'm definitely going to try out some of the other flavours. I've heard PB Chocolate tastes amazing!
