Be Your Own Inspiration - #LumiaFitnessInspiration

How many times in your life do you think you've been asked 'Who inspires you?' or 'Whats your inspiration?'. I can think of a handful of times and more often than not, each time the answer was different.
When I was a small child, if I was asked what inspired me, it would most definitely have been someone famous. As I embarked on my weight loss journey, my inspiration became total strangers. Pictures of slim, toned, amazing looking women and I dreamt of being like them.
People are inspired by lots of different things. A person, a specific place, a piece of art..
Microsoft launched a Lumia Fitness Inspiration Campaign and have been asking people to share who or what is their inspiration in the form of a picture and explain why the image inspires them. The competition is still open until 23:39 tonight and you can be in with the chance of winning a fitness bundle worth £1000!
What's my inspiration?
My inspiration is myself and my journey.
I'm no longer wishing I was someone else, wanting to look like anyone else or be like anyone else. I'm content and happy being me and that's all I could ever ask for.
I wanted to share a few quotes that are quite relevant here:
“Why compare yourself with others? No one in the entire world can do a better job of being you than you.”
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken”– Oscar Wilde
“Comparison is the thief of joy”-Theodore Roosevelt
The fact is, we're all unique. We all work differently, we have different bodies, they work in different ways and what works for someone, may not necessarily work for you.
I was naive to this at the start of my weight loss journey. I got caught up in comparing myself to others and wanting to look like someone else. When it didn't happen and I didn't get the results I wanted, I got upset, disappointed and often ended up taking two steps back.
I wish I'd snapped out of this mentality sooner and realise that I am my own inspiration.
I can do whatever I set my mind to. I lost 120 lbs on my own without help & I ran a half marathon on my own, through my own training, I graduated from university and found a job that I'm happy in. No-one could have made me do these things, I did them all by myself.
So, my advice would be for you to be your own inspiration. Set your mind to something and go get it! Don't compare yourself to other people, compare yourself to who you were yesterday, a week ago, a year ago. Look back on what you've accomplished so far and be proud. Who you are today, is a product of who you were yesterday.
