Training Diary // Run Hackney 2016 // Week 5 Recap
5/03/2016
We're into the final week! It's taper week! I managed to fit in a couple of runs this week, not the 4 that I expected but I'm not too fussed about it as my main runs are done! I've still been struggling with my running mojo recently and it's been hard to get out the door! Please come back to me! Things would be much easier! ;)
Week 5 Training Schedule
Week 5 Training Schedule
Day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday | Scheduled
Swim
5 Miles
2-3 MilesRest/CT Swim and/or Intervals Rest 6 Miles | What I Did Swim 4.48 Miles Rest Rest 3 Miles Rest 5.3 Miles |
So, Phillips mum and I usually do 5+ miles on a Tuesday but we ended up being a little delayed, it was busy on the run too, lots of people around and lots of changing directions with the dog(long story short, she's has behavioral issues, we have to be cautious with her sometimes, especially when it's busy). It was also SO freakin cold! It was blue skies, looked beautiful and mild. I wore shorts and a t-shirt.. and NO, freaaazing! It was very hard for me to warm up!
I didn't feel well Weds, was feeling very run down, so took a rest day. Friday I went out for a 3 miler which wasn't too bad, went out early morning, fought to get out of the door but it really wasn't bad after I was out and running!
Sunday was my last 'long' run of 6 miles and compared to the weather on Tuesday morning, this was the other end of the scale and it was freakin' horrid, it was SO hot! I ended up cutting it short at 5.3 with the intention of doing a 5+ miler this week.

I was hoping that it would be mild for Run Hackney on Sunday, but it turns out that there is meant to be a heatwave which is just brilliant! It will probably be the same as last year when I got sunburnt and Phillip got ill! xD
Day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday | Scheduled Rest Walk 5 Miles Rest 1.5-2 Miles Rest RACE DAY |
So, it's a pretty chill week before race day, this is what works for me, this might not work for others, but I've always done this sort of plan the week of race day.
So, I have a 5 mile run planned with Phillips mum on Wednesday, a short easy run on Friday as a shakeout, literally NOTHING for Saturday and then race day Sun.
Hopefully, I will actually do nothing the day before but sometimes that doesn't end up going to plan and I end up walking around more than I should!
I'm feeling good for Sunday, I enjoyed Hackney last year so I've been looking forward to it for this year too. I'm feeling prepared apart from the news about the heatwave which will probably make things a bit more difficult, I'm not good with heat!
Either way, I'm sure I will enjoy myself!
Question: If you had to pick between running in the cold and the heat, which one would you pick?
