Great North Run - Training Diary - Week 8
8/17/2015
So, I had a race this weekend which meant that my training schedule for this week wasn't totally on plan. I feel like the last couple of weeks I haven't really been following me plan much - I am following it really loosely at the moment. I don't have any other races coming up now up until GNR so I will be following my plan to the dot(except for this week, which I'll explain more about below!).
Week 8 Training Schedule
So, this weeks training wasn't on plan at all, but with good reason. I had a team triathlon that I was competing in this week so I had to limit the runs that I was doing.
For some runners, its perfectly fine for them to keep their training up until a day or so before their race. For me, that's never been the case - If I want to fully recover and be rested for a race at the weekend, my last run needs to be on Wednesday.
I didn't want to mess anything up, so that's exactly what I did this week.
I did my 3 miles on Tuesday as normal and on Wednesday, I actually traveled to Ely to run some of the hills that I would have to run up for the race on the weekend. I did 1 loop, which covered the two main hills I'd need to run up/down that weekend.
I wont say they were easy, cause they definitely weren't, but they were manageable and that was all I needed to know. As long as I didn't walk them or have to stop, I was all good.
I didn't do anything else for the rest of the week up until the race on the Sunday, which had it's highs and lows. I'm going to be doing a race recap on it that will probably go live on Wednesday, so keep your eyes peeled for that. I don't want to go into any other details about it.. so I'll just move on to next weeks training.

Don't think this picture does the hill justice. It is even more evil in person. |

So, if you read my post last week, you would have seen that I had the plan to change around weeks 8 and 9. This weeks training schedule would have fit in so much better last week than this week.
So, the only thing that will change this week in terms of my runs for this week - will be my long run this weekend. I won't be doing a 10k race - I essentially did that last week - so this week I'm going to do the 10 miler I should have done last week.
Hopefully all goes to plan. Phillip and I haven't decided if we are going to do the park run this week - so I might end up moving Fridays run to Saturday - but plans may change. We will see.
The main thing I'm concerned about is my long run this weekend. After my last proper long run the other week, I'm hoping to redeem myself this week and have a successful run with no major issues.
I'm gonna get up way earlier this Sunday to have breakfast etc and be ready to go out before the temp gets warmer.
Fingers Crossed that everything goes well!
