WestRun London // Training Diary // Week 3 Recap

10/26/2015

Some weeks are better than others in training. It just so happens that this is one of the weeks where things couldn't go exactly the way I wanted it to as I had other things on this week. I did manage to still get two runs in this week, which I was happy about, I was worried I wouldn't be able to run at all!

So, this will be short but sweet and I'll have a better update for next week with no distractions!

I mentioned last week that I'd be doing a Juice Cleanse at the beginning of the week and therefore I didn't do any runs at the beginning of the week. Exercise isn't advisable on a Juice Cleanse. After the Juice Cleanse was over, I was travelling down to my parents fro 4 days to spend some time with them as it's been a while since I last saw them.

I knew that I needed to try and get in some runs whilst I was there. On Friday, Phillip actually came out to run with me for once, which I was dreading as he runs so much faster than me and I sometimes feel pressurized to run faster to keep up with him. The run actually went really fast, he didn't pressure me too much and I ran the 2.8 miles at Tempo pace, so I was happy to cover at least a tempo run this week.

We usually store our park run bar codes in the car so we made the decision to go and do Preston Park Run on the Saturday. We've never been there before, I couldn't even remember what the park looked like it's been that long since I went!

So much so that I forgot how steep the hills were!
The above pictures really don't do the hills any justice, but they were pretty big! The park run ended up being 3 laps of the park and then a small veer off at the end to the finish. Right at the start, we had to run up one of the biggest, steepest hills in the park to the top part of the park - run along the edge and then come back down hill.

I ran up the hill the first time, ended up stopping half way the second time and almost felt like I was going to be sick on the third! xD My time was the worst I'd done so far, However, I really enjoyed it! It was great to go somewhere different to run.

I'm not busy this week. I have no cleanse to be in, nowhere to travel.. so basically NO excuse not to do all of my planned runs for this week.

The clocks went back too, which means it will be lighter in the mornings, which is perfect when I want to go and do hill runs in the centre before going to work!

I think we're planning on going to a different park run again this week, just for a change from the Milton Park Run that we usually do - it might not be any better, but Milton can be quite busy and quite crowded which makes it less fun when you're constantly being bumped into.. so we're seeing if the other is better for us, it's only an extra 10 minutes in the car.

I just hope that this week is a good week! *Fingers Crossed*

Question: Do you prefer morning runs when it's lighter in the winter or evening runs when it's darker?

  1. Gotta love a bit of parkrun tourism! :) I much prefer the less crowded courses. We usually run at Northampton, but have started going to the Corby course a bit more lately due to less pushing and weaving at the start. I like to be able to run still, not just go with the flow!

  2. @AHealthierMoo Definitely enjoy visiting other park runs and everyone is always so friendly! Much prefer when it's less busy and Cambridge is chocka so I end up getting stuck behind people which is why my time never improves.Hopefully Brandon is better for us :)

  3. I am 100% an evening runner usually - I like the cover of darkness and the lack of people. It's a confidence thing I think. That said, I used to like a morning run as a parkrun (not that I have been to my local in over a year! Shame on me!). Well done on your tempo run x
