Just Super Juice // 3 Day Juice Cleanse Experience

11/03/2015

Disclosure: I received a 3 Day Juice Cleanse from Just Super Juice for free in return for an honest review of my experience. I am not being paid to talk about or advertise their products. All opinions of the product are my own.
A week or so ago, I did a Juice Cleanse. It's something I've been considering doing for a very long time actually. Since having surgery last April, I've been struggling with loosing weight that I gained after being inactive for such a long period of time.

During recovery, it appears that I seemed to just lose track of what I was doing. Yes, I was eating healthy a majority of the time, but eating too much, even healthy choices, can still have adverse affects on your weight, as I found out.

I lost the connection between knowing when I was full and when I was hungry. I was eating when I was bored, I was eating when I 'felt' hungry even though more often than not, this was probably thirst. Things got a little out of control and I've ended up being a good 10 lbs heavier than I was before I went in for surgery and that wasn't even my lowest weight!

I needed a complete refresh and start over with food and I felt that a juice cleanse was the way forward. That's when Just Super Juice(company now doesn't exist) came in.

Just Super Juice are a company based in the UK who provide single juices and also a range of juice cleanses. They have a 3 day, 5 day and 7 day cleanse available, ranging from £60 upwards.

I did their 3 day juice cleanse. Here's what they say about the cleanse:
"Just Super Cleanse is a simple way to bring yourself back to the basics of life and to the basics of food – incorporating all natural, easily-digested, nutrient-dense juices into your daily routine in the most convenient way possible."

It sounded like exactly what I needed. Something that would take me back to the basics!

Juice Cleanses can be quite expensive and are often not something that people can fit into their budget. I suppose it depends on what your reasons are for wanting to do a juice cleanse and whether you think that it will benefit you. An alternative would be to source ingredients from your local farmers market and make juices yourself :) It's a good idea to do your research!

Reasons to do a cleanse
There are a plethora of reasons why people choose to do a juice cleanse including some of the following:
- Clearer Skin
- Healthier nails and hair
- Increased energy/stamina
- Increased mental clarity
- Improving digestion
- Improving your immune system
- Loosing your last few stubborn pounds
- Or even just wanting a complete refresh to rid of bad eating habits like I did!

I must say, when I did the cleanse, I noticed most of these benefits. I lost weight, I completely changed my eating habits, I got compliments on my skin, I didn't feel at all bloated during the cleanse and I was actually surprised with how much energy I had during the 3 days I was doing the cleanse, I was still awake till later in the night and if I went to bed earlier, it was more due to not wanting to feel hungry rather than feeling tired.

The only downside I saw during the cleanse was a headache on one of the days - but compared to the benefits seen during the cleanse, this was minor.

The Plan
So, there is a set plan during the cleanse - the instructions are set out on paper that is delivered with juices detailing the types of juices, their benefits and when to take each of the juices, here's what the plan was for the juice cleanse:
- Hot Water with Lemon in the Morning(lemon not included, but not a problem, I only needed 1 for 3 days and didn't use it all)
- 5 Juices provided by Just Super Juice - To be taken from 9 AM, each juice taken two hours apart until 5 PM.
- Water in between Juices
- No mention of exercise, but on such a low calorie restriction, I'm gathering it wasn't advisable. I didn't ask - I just didn't exercise for 3 days.

The Juices
The juices were to be taken in a particular order during the day. As mentioned above, there were 5 juices included. These were: Boost It, Immunity Kick, Berry Young, Protein Punch and Mental Edge. Here's an overview of the juices, their benefits and their ingredients!
Juice IngredientsBenefits
Boost It Chlorella, Pear, Cucumber, Sugar Snap Peas, Spinach, Lime and PineappleWith the natural energy producing vitamins B3 & C, you will be ready for a marathon... or for the day ahead!
Immunity Kick Camu, Carrot, Orange, Pineapple, Celery, Butternut Squash and MintWith a high source of Vitamin C, this will keep your immune system in tip top shape!
Berry Young (Second Favourite) Acai Berry, Beet, Carrot, Raspberries and BlackberriesWith the cleansing power of Beets, Vitamin C & Antioxidants to support and protect your skin, you will be feeling like a brand new person inside and out.
Protein Punch (Lease Favourite) Spirullina, Apple, Cucumber, Celery, Kale and LimeWith a completely natural source of protein and potassium, your muscles can start to restore their function.
Mental Edge (Favourite) Chia Seeds, Honeydew Melon, Cantaloupe, Cucumber and LemonWith a sweet taste(although still low in sugar) and Omega 3 Fatty acids you will be perked up and ready to show the world what this smartie pants can do!
The order of the juices was perfect, they did the job at least. I slightly tweaked the time that I was supposed to be having the juices. My first juice was supposed to be at 9 AM and my last juice at 5 PM. Unfortunately, I knew right from the off that that would not work for me. I'm used to eating right up until about 7-8 PM as I go to bed quite late at night.

Instead, I started my juices at about 10-10:30 depending on whether or not I felt really hungry or not - then spaced the juices 2 hours or so apart from there meaning that I had my last juice a bit later on in the day. This worked out perfect for me. If I'd have stopped at 5 PM, I'm sure this would have been a whole different story!

My 3 Day Juice Cleanse Experience
I actually did a vlog on the three days of the juice cleanse. If you would prefer to watch the experience than read about it, then click HERE to view it :) In this blog post, I'll break down the days and fill you in with how things went, how I felt and all that good stuff.

Before I start, I should mention that I did weigh myself at the start of the cleanse, everyday during the cleanse and after to track progress as I know that some people will be interested in that.

DAY ONE
Starting Weight: 158.8 lbs (Ouch..! :/)
I woke up bright and early. Got all the juices that I wanted to take to work with me(the first 4 juices) and headed to work. I'd usually have breakfast as soon as I get to work - so I knew it wouldn't be too long before I'd start to feel hungry.

As soon as I got into work - I made my hot water with lemon. I'm NOT familiar with this and I'm not a fan either, I really didn't like it but it kept my hunger at bay and I still felt OK.

I ended up having my first juice at 10:30 AM. It wasn't great. I know that Green Juices often don't taste that good anyway but it was bearable. There was a strong taste of Sugar Snap peas and Spinach and just tasted very earthy and veggified! About 30 mins after my first juice, I was feeling very light headed - I put it down to my lack of caffeine and adjusting to the fact that I hadn't had anything to eat, my body certainly wasn't used to it.

Coming up to the two hour mark for my next juice and my stomach was rumbling and ready for something! So I had my next juice; Immunity kick - This was better than the first juice for sure - had a very strong mint taste which I was thankful for.

I still had plenty of energy afterwards and plenty of focus for my job which was a good thing. I was just feeling hungry quite often and was drinking a lot of water. One downside to drinking liquids and not consuming any solid foods is that water becomes SO freaking unappealing, I was actually feeling sick when I drank water. Not to mention the hundred bathroom trips!

I had my third juice; Berry Young at around 2:30 PM - This was my second favourite and mostly tasted of berries with a hint of beetroot. It was very bearable and went down a treat - got rid of any hunger pangs too.

I ended up taking my fourth juice home and having it as soon as I got back. We usually have a family meal on a Monday when I get back from work - so as soon as I got home I could smell foot. Unfortunately, I became very anti-social and stormed up stairs to stay away from any food. I had my fourth juice sat on my own whilst everyone ate downstairs.. :(

The fourth juice was my least favourite; Protein Punch - I was pretty angry that I disliked it and I was definitely missing food! The juice was very bitter. At first I put this down to the lime but it was actually the celery. I really DON'T like celery so this didn't put me in a great mood.

I ended up going out to see some family that night and surprisingly managed to last quite a while without feeling hungry which was a good sign. When I got back, I had my last juice; Mental Edge. This was supposed to be the sweet juice of the bunch so I was pretty excited. It ended up living up to its expectations and was the best of the bunch! Tasted like melon and that was enough for me!

I ended up going to bed at about 9:30 PM - about 3 hours earlier than my usual bedtime, haha! I was starting to get hungry rather than tired and decided it would be best to just go to bed.

The first day wasn't too bad at all. I was expecting my energy levels to be flagging or feeling majorly tired and I wasn't at all. It was just hunger every so often that I was affected by.

DAY TWO
Weight: 155.2 lbs (Down 3.6 lbs - most likely water weight)
Had a great nights sleep. Woke up feeling OK. I wasn't hungry at all but unfortunately, I felt quite 'foggy headed', almost like a headache but not a full blown headache. Throughout the day I spread my juices out like I did on day one. I wasn't feeling hungry at all most of the time(only just before it was time to have a juice) and was only really having the juices because it was time to have them and not because I was desperate.

My headache ended up lasting all day. The more it went on whilst I was at work - the more I was loosing focus and feeling really fed up. I was just wishing for the day to be over so I could get home and just go to bed!

The day dragged and I just wasn't feeling up to anything. I was also feeling the cold A LOT more than usual. I'm assuming this was down to the fact that I wasn't having any warm drinks or hot food throughout the day and only cold water and cold juices. I was just feeling quite miserable, down and quite anti-social. I was mad at anyone that was eating food xD

My foggy headed feeling ended up going away towards the end of the night - but by that point I was about to go to bed and I was feeling pretty emotional too. It was overwhelming to not have any food and to have a headache all day that I couldn't shift just added to it - Every time Phillip asked me how I was feeling, I just felt pretty upset and didn't want to talk about it - a juice cleanse is definitely tough on the mind! I went to bed in a pretty foul mood that night.

DAY THREE
Weight: 154.4 lbs (Down 0.8 lbs)
I had another good nights sleep. So much so that it took me ages to get up in the morning and almost made me late for work! I was feeling pretty lackluster when I woke up. I was feeling sluggish and tired and really didn't want to get up and do anything.

I didn't have a headache in the morning which I was thankful for but I was feeling pretty darn hungry so I was looking forward to having my juice even though it wasn't the most enjoyable!

I didn't have any headaches during the day which made me very happy, however, I was hungry pretty much all day even between juices which I didn't enjoy very much!

As the day went on, my energy just continued to go up. I wasn't feeling very tired and had enough energy for work and to stay awake for longer at night which was great. The only down side to the day was constantly being hungry.

I went to bed pretty early still to make sure I wasn't tempted to have a little snack before I ended the cleanse! I didn't want to fall at the last hurdle! I was also wanting it to be that much closer to having some proper food to chow down on!

Conclusion after Cleanse
Weight after Cleanse: 153.4 lbs (Down a total of 5.4 lbs)
I must say, before anything else, that I feel incredibly proud of myself for having finished the cleanse as they are NOT easy! My eating habits were quite bad prior to doing the cleanse, so part of me had the defeatist attitude that I probably couldn't complete the cleanse.

Instead, I managed to do it! I didn't cave and have any food what so ever. I stuck to my guns and focused on using that willpower I had from when I first started loosing weight. I just had to put my mind to it.

I lost 5.4 lbs on the cleanse but I wasn't really that bothered with the number. This experience was never about losing weight as a priority. It was about sorting out my disordered eating habits and it certainly did that. Weight loss was just a bonus and I was never 100% sure that it would be permanent.

It's been a week and a half since I did the cleanse and everything has been fantastic! I'm no longer eating all the time, I'm able to recognize when I feel full and I stop eating at that point. I'm drinking a lot more water which is helping with the mixed signals of feeling hungry but not actually being hungry.

I don't feel hungry as often and I get full very quickly now and I'm so happy that the Juice Cleanse was able to do this for me. I am finally back in control of my body and what I put in it for fuel and it's been an amazing experience. I've learnt a lot about hunger levels and hunger deceptions.

Would I do the cleanse again?
Absolutely! Even though the cleanse was hard, it doesn't put me off wanting to do the cleanse again. I think the cleanse would be incredibly beneficial for me after a holiday.

We all know that when you go on holiday, it's a time to relax and chill out. With that can come a lot of different foods that you're typically not used to eating all the time, especially if you go to a hotel that has a buffet option.

I find it very hard to get back into a routine after coming back from holiday, so I think doing a cleanse for a clean start after getting back would be extremely helpful. I'm sure I will probably do one again in the future!
