WestRun London // Training Diary // Week 4 Recap
11/02/2015
I had a better week this week, thankfully! I managed 3 out of 4 of my scheduled training runs. Its the second to last week before the race on the 15th. It's come around so fast! I'll be into Taper week next week and I'm quite looking forward to doing the race itself!
Oh and my race number came last week too!
I've actually never had a bib number thats been in double digits, let alone a number as low as 15 so I feel alittle special, haha! :D
Week 4 Training Schedule
I did 4 runs this week - 3 of them were scheduled runs from my training plan and one run didn't go exactly to plan.
I was supposed to run on Tuesday - but I was totally knackered from swimming on Monday night that I just didn't want to get up! I ended up skipping that run with the plan to do it later on in the week.
My first run this week ended up being on Wednesday. Wednesdays are usually where I do the highest mileage. I go and meet Phillips mum in the city. I ended up wearing a jacket and long tights thinking that it was going to be pretty cold at 6am in the morning but it ended up being SO warm! I had to take my jacket off about 2 miles - Phillips Mum went ahead and I was supposed to catch her up but after I'd stopped, I really couldn't get into a rhythm and ended up being about 2 minutes slower than her. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't catch her up.
It was a little disappointing however I did still manage to maintain 10 minute miles which is exactly what I need to do on race day, so I'm still happy overall.
I ended up not doing a normal easy 3 mile run this week - this ended up being replaced by a 1.5 mile run with the dog on Friday. A run is a run though, so at least I didn't skip it!
On Saturday, we ended up doing Brandon park run for the first time and it was really fun! It was in a lovely country park with part of the run through a pretty wooded area - it was mostly trail but fairly flat. It wasn't my best time but I was pretty wary of the wooded areas with branches sticking out of the floor.
It was pretty hard running through the wooded area too - my eyes couldn't focus properly due to all the different coloured leaves on the floor.
Then, Sunday - me and Phillip decided to travel into the city to go and do some hill training. We went to the main park just wanted to go up and down the hill with no loops of any kind. I ended up running up as fast as I could and then just walking back down.Time flew by and it was hard work. The path up the hill was pretty slippy. I think next time I try hill training, I'll try jogging back down rather than walking.
My glutes also hurt today, I'm assuming it was because of the hill training yesterday as I haven't do anything else that could have worked them!
All in all, it's been an OK week this week. I got the major runs out of the way which I'm happy about.

This picture clearly doesn't do the hill too much justice, but trust me, it definitely was a hill! xD |

Week 5 Training Schedule
Day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday | Scheduled Swim Intervals/Hills 5 Miles Rest/CT Rest/CT Park Run / Tempo 3 Miles |
This will be the last full week before I go into Taper week. Training hasn't gone exactly to plan over the last few weeks and I haven't gotten in as many interval runs as I would have liked but the good thing is that I know I can do the distance for the race and that's the most important.
Through the training runs that I've been doing thus far, I've been averaging around 10 min/mi on my runs - If I can keep to this pace, then I should be on for an hour for a 10 km - and maybe I can push a little further and get under 1 hour? Maybe!
There should be no reason why I shouldn't beat my last time for a 10 km which was 1 hr 6 mins - unless something drastic happens but hopefully not!
I'll be making sure I get in all my training runs this week and hopefully I won't miss any of them!
Lets have a good week, shall we?!
Question: Ever done a trail run or been running in the woods? Do you enjoy it?
