North London Half // Training Diary // Overdue Update & Taper Week

3/14/2016

Well Hello! It's been a while since I did one of these updates.. :S As you probably already know, I went to Costa Rica for two weeks, I've been back for almost two weeks and this is the first time I'm updating you with my training.. shame on me.

If you follow me on IG or any social media for that fact.. you'll know that running was pretty much non-existent whilst I was on holiday.. but it's not because I couldn't be bothered.. it was just damn near impossible.

For the first 4 days of the holiday, we were on a tour so I knew I wouldn't be able to run then, we were busy almost all day and then I was knackered in the evenings.. not that there was a gym to go to anyway.

When we arrived at our final hotel, we settled in, found the gym and figured we'd try to find a good time to go when we'd both get a treadmill. It turns out, there was no good time. We tried mornings and evenings to get a treadmill in the gym with only luck on one day. I did 20 minutes hills on the treadmill in a stuffy hot gym and was done! The gym was shared between 2 hotels, so it wasn't ideal and it was always busy when we went.. so we gave up trying after a few days.
My next option was running outside.. but it was so bloody hot and after my experience the last time I ran on holiday.. I think I'll pass! Long story short.. we went for a run along the beach in Domincan Republic.. when I got back to the room, I discovered my whole stomach, back, arms and thighs were covered in massive water blisters. It completely freaked me out and it ruined my tan.. I've never run outside on holiday since.

Anyway! Since returning from Costa Rica, I did a long run of 10 miles the following weekend(and crippled by DOMS for half a week), a 3 miler last week and a 6 miler this past weekend. Pretty sh*t to say the least.
Excuse the camera blurryness in the corner. my screen protector on my
phone is buggered and was covering some of my camera.. Doh!
I struggled on my 10 and 3 miler last week, my 6 miles wasn't too bad - I could have gone further but didn't want to push it.

Originally, I wasn't going to taper since I screwed up my training, I was just going to continue on and start my training for Run Hackney in May.. but decided it was best to do a taper as normal as I might screw things up more!

So.. that brings me onto next week
Taper Week Schedule
Since I'm tapering as usual, I have the following in mind for this week:
Day
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Scheduled
Swim
Light Cross Training
3 Miles Easy
Walk
1-2 Miles Easy
REST
RACE DAY
So, I'll do 2 runs this week, both fairly easy(though.. to be fair, I never have an easy run), some light cross training earlier in the week, a walk towards the end of the week just to keep moving.. and then hopefully strict rest on Saturday - as 13.1 miles is no mean feat and I don't want to tire myself out.

Then, obviously, it's North London Half this weekend.. My aim is to just get round and try to enjoy myself. I royally messed up on training for this, which is a shame.. but I'll just have to do better for Run Hackney.

Wish me luck.. I'm deffo gonna need it! xD

Question: Do you have any races this week? What was the last race that you did?
